Unlike ultrasonic sensors that use a wide sound cone or analog infrared sensors that measure light intensity, the VL53L4CD provides superior precision. Its narrow laser beam creates a very tight sensing cone, ensuring you measure the distance directly in front of it without the common pitfalls of inaccurate linearity or "double imaging" (ambiguity between very close and very far objects). Consider this sensor the upgraded successor to popular models like the VL6180X and VL53L0X. It masterfully combines the best of both: it can detect objects as close as 1 mm (near-contact) and reach up to an impressive 1300 mm.
